I've decided I'm being too harsh to Barnes & Noble.
Instead of demanding they repair my Nook, I'll be satisfied by a lesser action. Which lesser action, you ask? Simple.
Let Amazon create an ePub Nook competitor and drive B&N out of business. Root and branch. Stomp it into the ground, thrust a wooden stake through its rotten heart, cut off it's head, sew communion wafers into its mouth and leave its vampiric rotting corpse to turn to ash at the rising of the sun.
THAT would be sufficient compensation for their attitude towards repairing my Nook.
In other words, there's no reason to go to extremes.

Since I've been reduced to selling off my few possessions, begging strangers for money to buy food and pay rent, and fielding humiliating telephone calls regarding my financial status (dead broke); and now that I have no working vehicle because I do not have the money to fix it, might I ask when you will give me the sales numbers for Net Assets and The Anarchists? And when might I expect to get paid the money already due to me? All I can tell from the Amazon rankings is that both books are still selling.
I have to deal with another embarrassing phone call in about two hours, and it would be nice to have some information to pass on at that time; so I would much appreciate it if you can provide solid data by then.
If your health prevents you from doing this, please pass this request to whomever holds your power of attorney for action.

It's now April 2, 2011. Benner's Near Space Press continues to sell pirated editions of my books Net Assets and The Anarchists, and still refuses to pay me anything whatsoever.
With Derek Benner gone, the theft is being carried on by one Dolores Benner, whom I believe to be Derek's mother. But she won't communicate with me, so I can't verify that. At any rate, shitty behavior appears to be a Benner genetic trait.
Sadly, "intellectual property rights", as defined currently in the US, only belng to those with money. Since the Benners won't pay me for my work, I have no money. And, face it, my books aren't on the NYT bestseller lists, so I can't find an attorney willing to take on the case on a contingency basis either. So much for rights.
Please don't reward the Benners' unethical behavior by purchasing their pirate editions. You can download free copies of Net Assets (along with a more complete and correctly formatted anthology than NSP's The Anarchists and the sequel to NA, Bargaining Position) at my website. Free, but I won't sneer at tip jar donations.
